ScreenCaptureKit permission troubleshooting

updated

On macOS, granting Screen & System Audio Recording permissions is mandatory for capturing call audio from other meeting participants. Occasionally, macOS’s Transparency, Consent, and Control (TCC) database can enter an inconsistent state. This guide provides resolution steps.

The standard permission grant workflow

  1. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording.
  2. Locate Oyma in the list and toggle the switch to On.
  3. When prompted, click Quit & Reopen (or press ⌘Q to quit and launch Oyma again).

Resolving stuck permission toggles

If the switch is turned on but Oyma still reports “Meeting audio: Needs setup”:

Step 1: Remove and re-add the application

  1. In System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, select Oyma.
  2. Click the minus button (−) at the bottom of the list to remove the entry.
  3. Quit Oyma completely (⌘Q).
  4. Launch Oyma and start a test recording. Click Open System Settings when prompted.
  5. Re-enable the toggle and restart the app.

Step 2: Reset TCC permissions via Terminal

If macOS fails to register the change, reset the system TCC entry via Terminal:

tccutil reset ScreenCapture com.marqly.avocado
tccutil reset Microphone com.marqly.avocado

(Note: Replace with your application bundle identifier if running a custom build).

Restart your Mac after executing tccutil to reload system daemons.

Testing permissions in Oyma

Navigate to Settings › Meetings › Diagnostics and click Run check. Verify that both Microphone and Meeting audio report status: Working.

Questions

Why does macOS say 'Restart required' after granting permissions?

macOS applies Screen & System Audio Recording permissions to running processes only after a full application restart.

What if the permission toggle is on but call audio remains silent?

Reset macOS's TCC permissions database for Oyma using the terminal command `tccutil reset ScreenCapture`.

Can permissions be locked by my employer's MDM profile?

Yes. If the toggle appears grayed out with 'Restricted', your company's Mobile Device Management profile controls screen recording permissions.
