Daily note workflows and journaling
Daily notes form the temporal backbone of personal knowledge management. In Oyma, pressing ⌘D opens or creates today’s log in plain CommonMark Markdown, keeping your reflections, meeting takeaways, and task progress synchronized.
The interstitial journaling routine
Interstitial journaling combines task logging with short reflections written between work sessions:
- Morning Kickoff: Review today’s calendar meetings and paste agenda goals into your morning checklist.
- Meeting Transition: As calls conclude, meeting action items and summaries link directly into today’s timeline.
- Context Reset: Write a two-sentence note whenever switching tasks to clear cognitive residue.
- Evening Review: Check off completed tasks, log key decisions, and migrate uncompleted items to tomorrow.

Calendar and folder structure
We recommend organizing daily notes into yearly and monthly subdirectories within your vault:
my-vault/
├── daily/
│ ├── 2026/
│ │ ├── 09/
│ │ └── 10/
│ │ ├── 2026-10-08.md
│ │ └── 2026-10-09.md
├── meetings/
└── projects/
This folder hierarchy keeps file listings responsive even after years of daily capture, while remaining 100% compatible with Obsidian’s Daily Notes core plugin.

Questions
Where are daily notes saved on my Mac?
Daily notes are stored in your configured daily notes folder as plain `.md` files named after your chosen date format (e.g. `YYYY-MM-DD.md`).
Can I use custom daily note templates?
Yes. Point the daily notes template setting to any Markdown file in your vault to pre-populate headings, checklists, and frontmatter properties.
Do meetings automatically link to today's note?
Yes. Transcripts and meeting summaries automatically link bidirectionally to today's daily note via wikilinks.
