Private beta for Mac

Your notes,
in plain Markdown.

On your Mac. No account. No lock-in.

Oyma is a fast Markdown notes app for your Mac. Your notes are plain files in a folder you choose, and when a call starts, it records without a bot and writes the summary into the note.

One email when your invite is ready. No newsletter.

See how it works
A note called “Q4 launch plan” fills in as you type Markdown: a heading, a sentence with a bold word, two tasks, a highlighted open question and a tip callout. Each line’s Markdown markers fade away as soon as the cursor moves to the next line, and the first task gets ticked.

What we believe

  • Your notes are files.

Plain Markdown in a folder you choose. Open them in any editor, any time.

  • Your knowledge should last.

No proprietary database, no lock-in. Stop using us tomorrow and every note is still there, still readable.

  • Your calls land in your notes.

Recorded and transcribed on your Mac, no bot on the call. The summary is written into the note you’re in.

Notes

A notes app first.

Live-preview Markdown with wikilinks, backlinks, a graph, callouts, highlights and footnotes. The Markdown it supports
A Markdown table of launch owners works like a spreadsheet: Tab moves the cursor from cell to cell, the plus button adds a row that gets typed in, and pasting two rows copied from a spreadsheet fills them in at once.
The ⌘O palette searches notes as you type “launch”. Typing a greater-than sign switches it to commands: New note ⌘N, New folder, Find in note, Search across notes. A hash sign switches it to tags.

Tables that work. Tab and Enter between cells. Sort, add rows, paste from a spreadsheet.

Links that keep up. Type [[ to link a note. Paste a URL for a card. Renames follow.

Everything on ⌘O. Notes, > commands and # tags from one palette.

Files

Same files.
Open them anywhere.

Point Oyma at a folder of Markdown and every other app can still read it. Nothing is imported or converted. Open notes you already have

PDF, Word and HTML. Stop using us tomorrow and every note still reads.

Meetings

Record quietly.
Keep the notes.

Capture lives inside your notes, so a meeting is just a note that listened. It notices Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Webex, Slack huddles, Discord, Around and Whereby. How meetings work
In the open note, the round capture button opens a small menu: Ask, Start capture and Capture options. Choosing Start capture shows a reminder to get everyone’s consent, and a recording dock appears with a pulsing red dot and a running timer while you keep typing call notes. The note’s row in the list and its tab show a red recording dot.
While the call is recorded, the Transcript panel fills in live: a three-dot listening indicator, then each sentence appearing word by word before it settles into a bubble labelled “Other audio” for the call or “You” for your microphone. Transcription runs on your Mac.
Stopping the capture opens the Summary panel, which says there is no summary yet. Choosing Generate summary shows “Writing summary…”, and a TL;DR, the decisions and a checklist of action items with owners appear line by line.
The Ask panel is set to the note and its recorded session. The question “What did we decide, and who owns it?” is typed and sent, and the answer appears paragraph by paragraph: the beta moves to November 14 if pricing is done by Monday, Priya owns pricing, Jonas the changelog and Maya the waitlist email. Add to note puts the answer into the note.

Record. Start capture from the note you’re in. Mic and call audio, no bot.

Transcribe. Whisper on your Mac, live, in 13 languages.

Summarise. Decisions and action items, written into the note.

Ask. “Who owns what?” Answers from this meeting, added to your note.

Call audio needs macOS 14.2 or later. Summaries and Ask run with Ollama on your Mac or your own Anthropic or OpenAI key. Ask works on one note and its transcript, not your whole vault. Set up AI on your Mac

Privacy

What leaves your Mac.

The short answer: nothing you didn’t set up. The full answer is below, row by row, and Local-only mode blocks all of it.
In Settings, under Privacy, the privacy preset is changed from Balanced (recommended) to Maximum privacy: everything on-device with all network blocked. The Local-only mode switch turns on with it, and transcription, meeting summaries and Ask all stay on the device.

Questions

More in the docs.

Where is my data stored?

In plain Markdown files in a folder on your Mac. Recordings and transcripts stay on your Mac. Local-only mode blocks every network request the app could make.

Can I use Oyma with my Obsidian vault?

Yes. Open the vault folder and your notes, wikilinks, callouts and frontmatter work as they are. Obsidian plugins and canvas files are not supported, and your Obsidian settings are left untouched.

Does Oyma join my calls as a bot?

No. It records your microphone and your Mac’s call audio directly, so nobody on the call sees a bot. Recording the call audio needs macOS 14.2 or later and the Screen & System Audio Recording permission.

Do I need an AI subscription for summaries?

No subscription. Summaries and Ask run on your Mac with Ollama, which you install once, or with your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key if you prefer a cloud model.

How much does Oyma cost?

It is free during the private beta. Anything that runs on your Mac will stay free; paid plans will be for services that cost us money to run.

Which Macs are supported?

Apple silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later during the beta. Windows is on the waitlist; there is no Windows, Linux or mobile version yet.

Your notes, in plain Markdown.
