Audio device switching and troubleshooting

updated

In modern hybrid work environments, audio routing changes dynamically: you connect Bluetooth AirPods, dock into a multi-port USB-C monitor, or plug in a dedicated USB podcast microphone. Oyma includes fault-tolerant audio device switching.

Automatic audio fallback protection

If your primary audio device disconnects mid-call (e.g. your AirPods battery depletes):

  1. CoreAudio notifies Oyma of the device detachment event.
  2. Oyma instantly re-binds the audio stream to your Mac’s Default System Input (typically the built-in microphone array).
  3. The recording continues without crashing, corrupting the audio buffer, or losing speech frames.

Resolving USB audio interface conflicts

Professional USB audio interfaces (such as Focusrite Scarlett, Shure MV7, or Universal Audio) can occasionally clash with macOS sample rate negotiation:

  1. Open Audio MIDI Setup (⌘Space › Audio MIDI Setup).
  2. Select your USB audio device in the left sidebar.
  3. Verify that Input Format and Output Format are set to 2 ch 24-bit Integer 48.0 kHz.
  4. Set your Mac’s built-in output to the matching sample rate (48.0 kHz).

Selecting microphones in Oyma

To explicitly lock Oyma to a specific microphone rather than following system defaults:

  1. Open Settings › Meetings › Audio Devices.
  2. Under Microphone Input, change Follow System Default to your specific hardware device.
  3. Test your voice in Audio Diagnostics to verify that input levels respond cleanly.

Questions

What happens if my AirPods disconnect during a recorded meeting?

Oyma seamlessly falls back to your Mac's internal microphone array without interrupting the recording session.

Why does my USB microphone sound robotic?

Mismatched clock sample rates (e.g. 44.1 kHz vs 48.0 kHz) can cause jitter. Set all devices to 48.0 kHz in Audio MIDI Setup.

Can I change input microphones during an active call?

Yes. Select a different microphone from the recording control menu without stopping the recording.
