Daily notes
Your daily log and scratchpad, automatically dated and indexed.
What this helps you achieve
- Open today's note instantly with a single keyboard shortcut
- Organize meeting prep, quick tasks, and journal entries in a clean date hierarchy
- Seamless integration with Obsidian-style YYYY-MM-DD vault naming conventions
Throughout an average working day, you encounter a deluge of transient information: sudden phone call notes, spontaneous architectural questions, rapid task lists, and quick reminders.
Creating a brand-new dedicated document for every fleeting thought leads to file bloat and decision paralysis. Conversely, putting everything into one gigantic scratchpad file creates an unmanageable scroll of unstructured text.
The Daily Note is the proven solution to this daily friction. By providing a fresh, date-stamped document for every day of the year, Oyma gives you a dedicated scratchpad that archives automatically, turning everyday chaos into a searchable chronological journal.
Frictionless daily capture with a single keystroke
With Oyma, accessing your daily log requires zero cognitive overhead. Whether you are in the middle of writing documentation or reviewing call records, invoking ⌘D or selecting Open Today's Daily Note from the command palette opens today’s document immediately.
If the note for today does not yet exist:
- Automatic date generation: Oyma calculates the current local system date formatted as standard ISO
YYYY-MM-DD(for example,2026-10-08.md). - Template instantiation: If you have configured a daily note template, Oyma populates the new file with your preferred structure (such as
# Daily Log,## Focus Priorities, and## Meetings). - Instant cursor readiness: The file opens in the live-preview Markdown editor with your cursor placed immediately ready for typing.
If the file already exists, Oyma brings it to the front without altering your existing text, allowing you to append new bullet points or task updates throughout the day.
The natural anchor for your meeting records
Daily notes become exponentially more powerful when combined with meeting capture.
Instead of scattering meeting summaries across random project folders, you can organize your daily interactions chronologically. When you record a discussion using our zero-bot meeting recording pipeline, Oyma automatically generates wikilinks to the meeting record directly within today’s daily note:
# 2026-10-08
## Priority Focus

- [ ] Finalize local Ollama prompt templates
## Today's Meetings
- 10:00 AM: [[Meeting 2026-10-08 Product Architecture]]
- 02:30 PM: [[Meeting 2026-10-08 Client Onboarding]]
Clicking any link immediately opens the detailed meeting record, complete with on-device transcription, audio bookmarks, and summaries generated via local AI with Ollama.
Your daily note serves as the chronological spine of your workspace, providing immediate context for what transpired on any given Tuesday three months ago.
Standard plain text format: 100% Obsidian compatibility
Many journaling applications store entries inside proprietary SQLite databases or synchronize them to proprietary cloud silos that lock your personal history into their product lifecycle.
In Oyma, every daily note is an ordinary .md file stored in the folder you specify on your Mac. The file naming convention (YYYY-MM-DD.md) adheres precisely to the standard format utilized by the Obsidian Daily Notes core plugin.
If you open your vault in Obsidian, your daily notes appear in the calendar view automatically. If you run terminal scripts or automate backups with Git, your journals remain standard, human-readable text that you own forever.
Custom Markdown templates for structured morning routines
A blank page can provoke hesitation. To accelerate your morning setup, Oyma supports customizable daily note templates that seed every new file with your preferred headings, checklists, and metadata.
You can configure templates to include:
- Recurring habit checklists: Morning pre-flight checks, physical wellness tracking, and daily focus objectives formatted as standard Markdown task boxes (
- [ ]). - Standardized YAML frontmatter: Structured date tags, weather conditions, or project sprints that integrate cleanly with personal analytics scripts.
- Dedicated meeting slots: Pre-formatted sections that automatically catch incoming meeting links generated during call recordings.
- End-of-day reflection prompts: Three standard questions (“What was shipped?”, “What was delayed?”, “What requires escalation tomorrow?”) that ensure clean closure at the end of each workday.
Because templates are themselves authored in standard Markdown, you can edit or extend your template at any time without learning complex scripting languages or proprietary configuration schemas.
End-of-day review and longitudinal reflection
Daily notes are not merely a place to write things down; they create a longitudinal record of your personal and professional evolution.
By leveraging our fast full-text search and interactive graph view, you can explore how ideas evolved across weeks and months:
- Weekly reviews: Scan the last five daily notes to summarize deliverables achieved and compile executive status reports without hunting through scattered emails.
- Backlink discovery: Open any project note and look at its backlinks panel to see every single day that project was touched or discussed in a meeting.
- Zero data loss: Because files are saved locally on disk, your personal reflections and professional notes are never dependent on server uptime, API migrations, or cloud subscriptions.
- Privacy for private thoughts: Unfiltered daily journaling often contains personal reflections that have no place on cloud servers. On-device storage guarantees your private notes remain completely confidential.
Establish an effortless daily journaling and capture habit with Oyma.
