Oyma saves meeting audio directly inside your vault's `recordings/` folder as standard AAC-compressed `.m4a` files. Files are playable in any standard media player and never uploaded to cloud servers.
Local Audio Storage with Zero Cloud Footprint
Cloud meeting assistants upload full-length audio recordings to proprietary remote cloud buckets (such as AWS S3). You rarely have direct file access, and downloading raw audio requires hunting through complex administrative web dashboards.
Oyma stores every recording as an ordinary file directly inside your local knowledge vault.
File Storage Location and Naming
By default, audio files are organized in a designated directory within your vault:
~/Documents/Vault/

- Clean File Format: Audio is encoded in industry-standard Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) inside an
.m4acontainer. - High Audio Quality: Stereo 48 kHz sampling with a bit rate of 96 kbps yields crisp vocal clarity while minimizing storage usage.
- Storage Consumption: A standard 60-minute meeting recording consumes approximately 42 MB of disk space.
- Sidecar Transcripts: Time-aligned subtitle tracks are saved alongside as standard WebVTT (
.vtt) files for universal player compatibility.
Automatic Retention and Archiving Rules
In Preferences > Audio & Storage, you can configure automatic retention policies:
- Keep all audio indefinitely.
- Automatically delete raw audio after transcription and summary generation to save disk space.
- Archive audio files to an external drive or network share after 30 days.
Audio Asset Retention and Disk Management
Keeping your vault lean while maintaining important meeting records:
- Configurable Retention Windows: In settings, choose to automatically archive or delete audio files older than 30, 60, or 90 days while preserving the text transcripts forever.
- External Storage Redirection: Direct your audio recordings folder to an external SSD or network share while keeping your Markdown notes on your primary Mac drive.
- Portable Relative Linking: Notes link to audio files using relative Markdown syntax, allowing you to relocate your vault without breaking audio playback.
Standard Formats and Universal Media Compatibility
Recordings are saved as industry-standard AAC .m4a files. You can listen to them in Apple Music, QuickTime, VLC, or any mobile audio player without converting formats or relying on proprietary vendor playback tools.
Sidecar WebVTT files (.vtt) are also generated alongside every recording, allowing you to load transcripts as subtitles in video players or import them into external analysis tools.
